Magma Brass Band
The Magma Brass were formed in autumn 2007 by Graham who plays the sousaphone. The music is inspired by the New Orleans brass band tradition but it also takes on board influences from many other cultures and genre’s – Jamaican, Eastern European, funk, gospel, jazz…
This is all tied together with a creative sense of humour giving the band a unique sound. Graham has surrounded himself with a collection of highly versatile jazz musicians who can take a melody and turn it into an arrangement on the spot.
The band is all about spontaneity, energy, interaction and fun. Much of the repertoire is written specifically for the Magma Brass by members of the band. Described as a band that “is totally impossible not to enjoy”, and disregarding any perceived boundaries between modern and traditional jazz, the Magma Brass has been inspiring people of all ages and tastes at clubs, arts centres and festivals across the UK.
