Sweet Jane

SISTERS BROTHERS FRIENDS AND LOVERS…
WE ARE SWEET JANE

Sweet Jane’s origin in early 2007 was that of a pet project between Lydia Des Dolles & Danda. Armed with a handful of home recordings, they set about building a band and a live show that would bare the same name as the Lou Reed penned classic sleaze-rock standard. Just over one year down the line, following some personnel changes and a busy schedule of club gigs around Ireland [supporting local favorites such as… Giveamanakick, The Things, Mainline, Stagger Lee, The Urges, The Distractors, TwinKranes, & More...] Sweet Jane, augmented by Ruairi, Staf & Andy are now ready!

Musically Sweet Jane’s agenda is simple, Low-Rent, Heart-Felt, Sleazed-Up, Guitar-Driven, Shoe-Gaze Rock N’ Roll. And with Shared vocal duties, Lydia & Danda create an almost uncomfortably intimate finish to the band’s sound. If you have never seen this band live…Go Forth and be redeemed.

The band recently went on their first overseas mission to play the ‘Dream Machine’ festival in Sheffield in the UK. This celebration of all things dark and drugged-out also included appearances from ex-Spiritualized & Spacemen3 Legend Will Carruthers with his new project ‘Free Love Babies’ and the Dilettantes featuring Joel Gion of The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

In the studio Sweet Jane have been working with Graham Sutton who is a house producer in Rough Trade Records, who lists Jarvis Cocker, British Sea Power and Liars among a long list of acts he has worked with. They are also awaiting new material which is being mixed by Ryan Van Kreidt of US shoe gaze stalwart bands Sunsplit & the Asteroid No.4. The Dublin five piece are fast approaching their first release so lookout for that.
2008 has also seen them play a special guest appearance supporting Black Rebel Motorcycle club & The Duke Spirit and a performance and interview on RTE Televisions WE/TV programme.

They are now focusing on a summer release for their debut record and a trip overseas for ‘London’s Calling’ in which they were one of five bands in Ireland picked to represent the island at this years event

Live Music Events London

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Hi to all.  The Good Ship has invested no little cash in PA equipment and speakers in April and throughout May and June we will be treating the old vessel acoustically as we try and attain the best sound possible from the pit.  As ever we have a huge range of bands this month and my main tips for the month are as below.

If you would like any industry guest list tickets for any event then please get in touch.  Full contact details are at the bottom.

My main tips for the month are…
Soft Toy Emergency on the 2nd The first of 3 hotly tipped bands from Liverpool at The Good Ship this month, these are the most untraditional with their manic, electro disco.
The Helmholtz Resonators on the 8th Newly formed indie supergroup side project.  Fantastic, industrial, robotic TIm Burton soundtracks performed with gusto and no little glee.
Polka Party on the 15th You really can hear all their influences in their high octane indie.  A touch of The Young Knives and Interpol but with a liberal dousing of Ladytron Venue.
Evi Vine on the 22nd “Evi Vine live experience is one of enchantment and dark beauty, with audiences often moved to tears at the sense of depth, involvement and understanding in her work.”
The Beehives on the 24th Huge in Liverpool, The Beehives should have a great chance of making an impression here with their cute feel good pop and the unmistakable vocals of frontman Thomas

The Good Ship is also available for private functions, single or video launches (we have a cinema size screen) and whatever other excuse people need.  We are always interested in speaking with promoters who want to put on interesting acts and we open til 2am during the week and 4am during the weekend.  Please ask sooner rather than later though as dates go quickly.

26 nights of music, 4 of comedy.  Full live music list for the month…

Once again Paul Hawkins & Thee Awkward Silences put on a fantastic bill of the very best and most unique bands they can possibly find.  This month we present:
Extradition Order www.myspace.com/extraditionorder Edwardian Blues-punk urchin brilliance from the homemade gas can guitar toting trio.  Like a more eccentric and less socially-adjusted version of the White Stripes, they release their new single “Penetrate” very very soon…
