Fabulous evenings and great nights as part of an international touring based on jazz and pasta.

Spaghetti Swing will be guest at  Henley Festival (www.henley-festival.co.uk)!
This famous festival (9-13 July 2008) is held over five magical Summer evenings in July on the banks of the beautiful River Thames.
Is the most enjoyable festival in the west London interland, a unique event, likes anywhere else in the world. First-class hospitality for all visitors in a magnificent setting.

Corriere Delle Alpi, Italian Newspaper

“Music fun and solid jazz masters, with steaming hot pasta.  I loved every minute, every note!”
Adrian Mealing, Callow End, Worcestershire UK

“The cutting enseble captured a lot of people, with an infallible formula: enjoy theirselves and the audience, playing very good music … a lot of applauses and people that was moving head and feet, following the rhythm.”
La Nuova Ferrara, Italian Newspaper

“Musically excellent – good inventive jazz, quite mellow, with broad appeal and great vocals.  Great humour…..gastronomically great. The pasta cooking definitely added something and it was delicious”
John Coleman, Hoby UK

“An italian quartet with a difference. The 1950s swing jazzy is hot and sexy, brilliand music and very funny because these guys also cook spaghetti on stage as well as sing and play ! “
Richard Mollart, Woodhouse Eaves UK

THE SHOW

This is pure Italian Style through the music of masters such as Buscaglione, Modugno, Arbore, Bongusto, and many others, in a exhilarating show of great music value, wholly dedicated to the Italian Swing.
Not only notes, but gastronomy and fancy dress too, in the culinary experiments, as integrating part of this show.
An italian quartet with a difference! So much swing and spaghetti, live cooked on the stage by a band full of humor, old dressed and brilliant music, whose leader is an exceptional frontman in the twofold role of starring singer and refined sommelier/chef. 1950s swing jazz is hot and sexy and very funny because these guys also cook as well as sing and play. What more could you want!

Live Jazz Gig by Andrea Mann

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

A rare chance to catch me in Soho is all yours for a mere five of your Earth pounds!

Hello chums,

I’m playing the Piano Bar at Soho Revue Bar on Wednesday 14 May - so please please please come down to support if you can. It’s one of those ‘get as many people as you can in order to get paid’ gigs, you see - like what they have in the pop world - so I would really appreciate your support even more than I normally do. And that’s an awful lot.

I’ll be doing the opening set for young name-to-watch crooner Atila and I’ll be performing with the wonderful Oxford duo of Martin Pickett on piano and Paul Jefferies on bass.

It will be a great little set in a great little venue - so if you’re in the West End, or just fancy a nice old-fashioned jazz night out in Soho for approximately one-eighth of what it costs to go to Ronnie Scott’s, please come along.

Doors are 8pm, I’m on at 8.30pm, and tickets are £5 in advance/£6 on the door. You can book online here (NB. there’s no phone booking).

All the details are also on the attached flyer (and yes, as you can see, I will be performing LIVE; as opposed to lip-synching, as I normally do).

Hope you can make it!

thanks, and cheers,

Andrea x

proposals update april.2008

Hello Dear Promoters!

Refreshing our proposals we would like to share with you all the success of Hugo Alves’ last CD “Given Soul”! “Given Soul” is the most highlighted Jazz Singer CD in Portugal by the Portuguese press, but not only! Cuadernos Del Jazz in Spain rated it *** (good), as well as British Columbia Jazz Magazine (Canada), that had already flashed the Artist and the CD on it’s July cover, or SmoothJazz (USA) Or Radio RCV-Lille (France), not to mention national Radios such as RDP, or RDP Africa, RCP, RUM among many, many others.  But let’s take a general look at the Press Reviews:

“Hugo Alves … offers contemporary jazz that we could state as mainstream. Among the Quartet we can point out the performance of Hugo Alves (Dr. Fox, 66 Exchange) and pianist Pablo Romero. They both have a big showcase to show their abilities.” Class. *** (Good) José F. Tapiz, Cuadernos Del Jazz Fev.2008 (Spain)

“… As in the case of trumpeter Hugo Alves, whose CD Given Soul is a real breath of fresh air in the new Portuguese jazz. Not because he is going for new grounds as others, or representing a new facet of a certain Portuguese jazz. For years Hugo Alves comes across our path as a soloist, an orchestra musician, and a teacher. What he presents in all this humility is music well rooted in jazz, expressed safely, with melodic invention, vivacity and absolute sense of jazz. Accompanied by a sympathetic trio with it’s concepts, especially the drummer Michael Lauren, Hugo Alves, once again, affirmes to be a trumpeter of international call.” (classified with ****) Raul Vaz Bernardo, Expresso - Revista Actual, 09.Fev.2008

Hugo Alves Given Soul as background music on the “Entre Pratos” program on channel RTP2 (national TV), presented by: Henrique Sá Pessoa, 08.Dec.2007

“Hugo Alves is a type of lone wolf in the national Jazz panorama. He is Algarvian, he was part of the Ze Eduardo Unit, he’s the Lagos Jazz Orquestra director and the Taksi Trio mentor. Hugo Alves is a bopper, with all which can be said of boppers both good and bad: the boppers were the best jazz musicians in the world and their technique in many cases continues to be insurpassable. Esthetically we can classify his playing as being unsurpassable . All all one has to do is go to a concert performance to understand that his music seems to have always existed and must never stop existing. Hugo Alves is a jazz musician that likes his Jazz pure and hard: his last CD, without a harmonic instument, was truely “raw” (I believe it easier to listen to it in live concert) while on Given Soul Pablo Romero’s electric piano seems to have polished the edges and helped it become more balanced. A CD that one can listen to with pleasure.” Leonel Santos, Site http://www.jazzlogical.net , “30 CDs for Christmas”, Dec.2007

Hugo Alves Given Soul classified with**** (out of *****) by http://www.jazzportugal.ua.pt José Duarte, JazzPortugal, Jun.2007

“Alves has once again made evidente his credentials not only as an inspired instrumentalist but also as a gifted composer. With his clear and structured sound he has put together a CD filled with a sunny, warm, laidback atmosphereand includes an elegant swing… “Given Soul is a sober and honest CD by a musician that cannot seem to stop surprising us and still seems to have a lot to contribuite to tha national jazz scene. This is just the beginning…” António Branco, Blog Improvisos Ao Sul, 22.Jun.2007

“Hugo Alves, an important figure in the national jazz scene, confirms all of his inate talent on trumpet. The evolution which lead to this CD is probably the most imporant of his carreer. The crystal clear sound of his trumpet and the fluidity of the notes that come out of him can only be produced by a mature musician that is completely aware and in control of the secrets hidden within his instruments and therefore is able to produce all the melody and harmony needed to show in such an exemplary form what can be found here. A milestone” António Rubio in Correio da Manhã(national newspaper), Êxito / CDs of the week, on 09.Jun.2007 Class. **** (out of *****)

“Hugo Alves affirms himself as one of the sure things in the national jazz panorama. We particularly appreciate the honest way he presents his originals… with an extreme sobriety, capable, above all, of joining with a sensibility which has very little if anything to do with jazz. The freshness of the music, always a bit mainstream allowed him to conquer a space which has no doubt been waiting for him: the esthetics of jzz is painted with a palet of many colours and it is necessary that the spectrum have as many different tones as possible… Hugo Alves’ world of sound grabs us at first listen.” Rui Branco in Jornal de Notícias (national newspaper), Culture / CD, on 02.Jun.2007 Class. 7/10

Besides all of the press, which has been great, we have also been kept busy by all the orders for the “Given Soul” CD that have been coming in from all over Europe!
Well my dearest promoters no matter how busy I am, you know, I always make time to answer your questions and send out the information you need so always feel free to contact me by e-mail booking.music@gmail.com or by phone between 9:00 and 13:00 (1p.m.) Greenwich time. If you wish to receive a press kit in PDF format and / or an audio CD just send me an e-mail and I will send it out to you ASAP.
As always, keep well and I look forward to hearing from you.

Classical and Flamenco

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Dear friends:

The Academy of the Arts and Sciences of Music (ACAM), in his 12ª edition, has granted the prize to best interpretion of classical music a CAÑIZARES by its work “IBERIA SUITE, ALBENIZ by CAÑIZARES.
Thanks to all those that you have made this one success possible
These are some of so many links that they appear these days in means

Flamenco guitarist Cañizares wins a 2008 Music Award for his album ‘Suite Iberia’ and the thing is that the latest album by Juan Manuel Cañizares “is the fruit of four years of work to transfer Isaac Albéniz’s original score for piano to flamenco guitar”. Upon receiving the statuette, which was awarded to him at the presentation of Festival Suma Flamenca 2008, which will close with the album in concert on June 15th, the musician said that “it’s a really symbolic prize because it means the brotherly union of two great sorts of music; classical and flamenco”.

Latin Bands

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Good afternoon, I’m Greg Rose, I represent La Linea, The London Latin Music Festival. We have legendary Brazilian band The Ipanemas playing on Wednesday 16th April at the Barbican with Zuco 103 which might be of interest to you. I’ve had a look on your website and can’t see any news about this show. If you feel this information would be worthy of some space on your website it’d be great. Please let me know if you require me to send an image of the band.

The Ipanemas + Zuco 103
Wednesday 16th April
Barbican
£15, £17, £20
Silk Street
EC2Y 8DS
020 7638 8891

The Ipanemas were originally formed in the late 1950s and although their eponymous 1964 debut was much  sought after there was no follow up until Far Out Recordings released the  newly recorded ‘The Return of the Ipanemas’ in 2001 featuring original  drumming legend Wilson Das Neves and original sambossa guitar  specialist, Neco. Their 4th Far Out release, “Call of the Gods”, is due in April and the live band, as well as Wilson, features Ivan Conti and Alex Mahleiros from yet another legendary Brazilian outfit, Azymuth.

Zuco 103, the Brazilian/European band have positioned themselves at the vanguard of the new world / electronic fusion movement.  Since the release of their best-selling album Tales Of High Fever in 2002, Zuco 103 (aka Rio-born singer / lyricist Lilian Vieira, Amsterdam-born drummer / composer Stuv aka S.Kruger, and Munich-born keyboardist / composer Stefan Schmid) have been touring around the world, setting audiences on fire with their brilliant mix of live + electronic rhythms, fronted by Lilian’s extraordinary voice and presence. This will be their first London appearance for several years so a special night is guaranteed.

‘Rockin’ n’ Jumpin’

Monday, April 14th, 2008

VPMG proudly presents

Keb Darge and Andy Weatherall
‘Rockin’ n’ Jumpin’

The Pigalle Club
215 Piccadilly
London
W1J 9HN

Launching on the 14th May
11pm – 4am every Wednesday night

Riding high on the wave of the current Rock and Roll resurgence, Keb Darge and Andy Weatherall present “Rockin’ n’ Jumpin” featuring underground sounds of the fifties.

Both DJ’s hail from contrasting backgrounds in music. Keb grew to fame on the northern soul scene in the late seventies and early eighties. He then went on to virtually single headedly create the deep funk scene which spurred a renascence in seventies black American music worldwide.

Andy on the other hand is a superstar DJ/Producer from the world of house music, producing artists such as Beth Orton, Primal Scream and One Dove and remixing the work of, amongst others, Bjork, Siouxsie, The Orb, New Order, My Bloody Valentine and James. His own catalogue of releases includes  “Feathers” the track recently used in an advert for a Volkswagen

But putting their different backgrounds aside, they both share a love of, passion for and great knowledge of fifties music and fashion. And it is this passion that bought them together for a night of  Rockabilly, Jump and Country blues, Hillbilly etc.  The Pigalle Club with it’s authentic 50’s interior will provide the perfect backdrop to this unique night. The dress code is pure 50’s style and dancing is obligatory.
